Does MovementX Accept Auto Accident (MVA), PIP, or Workers’ Comp Insurance?
DIRECT ANSWER
Yes. Motor vehicle accidents (MVA or PIP) and workers’ compensation are the only two situations where MovementX bills the insurer directly.
If you were injured in a car accident or at work and your claim is approved by our team ahead of time, your physical therapy is typically covered in full with nothing out of pocket.
KEY FACTS
- We bill directly for MVA/PIP and workers’ comp, so there is no reimbursement paperwork for you
- Typical out-of-pocket cost: $0 for approved claims
- Care still comes to you, which matters a great deal when traveling may be painful
- To get started: email insurance@movement-x.com with your claim details, or call (202) 681-1474
- Refer a patient: use our online referral link, email us at insurance@movement-x.com, or fax 888-645-6068.
What do MVA and PIP mean?
You will see both abbreviations used, sometimes interchangeably, so here is the difference.
MVA stands for motor vehicle accident. It describes the event, and it is the term most insurers, attorneys, and clinicians use for car, truck, and motorcycle collisions.
PIP stands for Personal Injury Protection, the portion of auto insurance that covers medical treatment after a crash regardless of who caused it. In no-fault states PIP is mandatory. In others it is optional, and many people carry it without realizing. If you are not certain whether you have PIP, call your auto insurer and ask, or send us your policy information and we will check for you.
- Two things worth knowing about PIP:
- It is no-fault. You do not have to prove the other driver was responsible, and you do not have to wait for a liability determination. If you have PIP coverage, it covers your treatment now.
- Using it does not raise your rates in most states. PIP exists to be used. Many people delay care assuming a claim will cost them later, and delay is one of the strongest predictors of a difficult recovery after a crash.
What do you treat after a motor vehicle accident?
Our therapists work with the injuries that appear most often after collisions:
- Whiplash and neck injury. The most common MVA injury, and one that responds well to early, targeted treatment.
- Back and spine injuries, including disc injuries and persistent low back pain.
- Post-operative rehabilitation, if your injuries required surgery.
- Shoulder and seatbelt injuries, including rotator cuff strain from bracing at impact.
- Knee and dashboard injuries.
- Concussion-related symptoms, including vestibular and balance issues, in markets with a trained specialist.
Why care that comes to you matters after a crash
Getting to a clinic shouldn’t be the hardest part of recovery.
After a collision, driving may be painful, unnerving, or medically inadvisable, and your car may be out of commission entirely. The standard recommendation is two or three PT sessions a week for several weeks, which adds up to a lot of trips for someone who cannot comfortably turn their head.
Your MovementX therapist can come directly to you. That removes the most common reason people abandon post-accident rehab partway through, and it matters for your claim as well as your recovery. Gaps in treatment are sometimes used by insurers as evidence that an injury was not serious.
How do I get started with an MVA or PIP claim?
- Open a claim with your auto insurer if you have not already. You will receive a claim number and an assigned adjuster.
- Contact us at insurance@movement-x.com with your details, your adjuster’s name and contact information, your insurer, and the date of the accident.
- We verify coverage directly with your insurer and confirm the benefits available to you.
- We match you with a therapist who treats accident injuries in your area.
- Treatment begins. We bill your PIP carrier directly.
If an attorney is handling your case, send us their information as well and we will coordinate.
What about workers’ compensation?
The structure is the same. If you were injured at work and your claim is approved, we bill your employer’s workers’ compensation carrier directly and you pay nothing.
To begin, you will need your claim number, the carrier’s name, and your adjuster’s contact information. Some states and carriers require an authorized provider list or prior approval before treatment starts, so send us your details and we will find out what applies to you before you are responsible for anything.
What if my claim is denied or my benefits run out?
PIP benefits have limits, and they can be exhausted before you have finished recovering.
If that happens you still have options. You can continue with us as a self-pay patient at our standard rate, potentially using out-of-network benefits from your health insurance. If you have a pending liability case, your attorney may be able to arrange treatment on a letter of protection. Or we can help you transition to a lower-cost provider.
Either way, we will tell you when you are approaching your limit rather than letting you discover it on a bill.
How soon after an accident should I start?
Sooner than most people do.
Early treatment consistently produces better outcomes than delayed treatment for crash-related soft tissue injury.
If you are waiting because you are not sure the injury is serious enough to treat, get evaluated. Your therapist will tell you honestly if you do not need treatment.
