Can I Use My Insurance at MovementX?

Yes, though not in the way you may be used to.

MovementX is out-of-network with all commercial insurance plans, so we do not bill your insurer directly. You pay at the time of service, we give you a superbill containing the codes your insurer needs, and you submit it for reimbursement. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, a portion of what you paid comes back to you.

Auto insurance (MVA and PIP) and workers’ compensation are the only exceptions. Those we do bill directly.

Why isn’t MovementX in-network with anyone?

Because in-network contracts require the high-volume model we built MovementX to move away from.

When a practice signs an insurance contract, it agrees to a set reimbursement rate. Those rates have been flat or falling for two decades while the cost of delivering care has risen. Staying solvent at those rates generally means seeing more patients per therapist per hour, which is why a typical in-network visit involves a therapist dividing attention across several people at once.

We built MovementX around a different structure: one therapist, one patient, one hour.

That model does not survive an in-network contract, so we do not sign them. It’s not the best fit for everyone and we will not pretend otherwise. You may pay more up front, and the reimbursement paperwork is yours to file. What you get in exchange is the best possible PT experience to achieve your physical health goals.

Can I Use My Medicare Coverage?

MovementX is not enrolled in Medicare, so you cannot use Medicare Part B, Secondary, or Supplemental insurance coverage.

However, you are welcome to receive wellness care with us on an out-of-pocket basis, independent of your insurance.

A physician referral is not required to start physical therapy at MovementX. In some rare cases, your insurance plan may require a doctor referral in order for receive reimbursement for out-of-network services. Simply call the number on the back of your insurance card to inquire if a referral is required for physical therapy.

Insurance Coverage


MovementX is an out-of-network provider, which means we can work with most major insurance plans through reimbursement. You cannot use in-network benefits to pay for our services. However, most major insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits that allow you to receive reimbursement after paying for services upfront. Depending on your specific plan, physical therapy sessions with MovementX may also count toward your deductible. If you’re unsure about your specific plan, you can submit your insurance information to us, and we’ll help you verify your out-of-network coverage. We also accept Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) and Workers’ Compensation (WC or PIP) claims for qualifying patients, offering additional options for coverage.

MovementX is not enrolled in Medicare.

While MovementX does not accept Medicare for traditional physical therapy services due to Medicare’s strict regulations, many people still choose to work with us on a self-pay basis because of the high level of personalized service we provide. We also offer wellness and strengthening services which are not covered by Medicare, but can effectively improve your movement and overall health.

Insurance companies decide what they believe a physical therapy session should cost. This number is called the “allowed amount” or “limiting charge.” It’s not based on the actual cost of delivering high-quality care or MovementX’s hourly rate, but rather on what the insurer is willing to reimburse.

Yes, you can use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for physical therapy sessions at MovementX. To submit a claim for MovementX services, follow these steps:

  1. Receive Your Superbill: After each session, we’ll provide you with an itemized receipt called a superbill. This includes all necessary details like CPT codes, dates of service, and provider information.
  2. Combine Receipts (If Needed): If you’ve had multiple sessions, we can combine the receipts into a single superbill, making it easier for you to submit a claim to your insurance company.
  3. Submit to Your Insurance: You can submit the superbill to your insurance company either by mailing it or uploading it through their online portal. Make sure to follow their specific submission guidelines to avoid delays.
  4. Follow Up on Your Claim: Once your claim is submitted, follow up with your insurance company to ensure it’s being processed. They will then send you a reimbursement check for the covered portion of your sessions based on your out-of-network benefits.

The exact amount you’ll be reimbursed depends on your specific insurance plan’s out-of-network benefits and whether you’ve met your deductible. Insurance companies usually cover a percentage of out-of-network services, typically within 50-80% of their allowable rate after you’ve met your deductible. We recommend calling your insurance company to better understand your coverage before starting therapy.

Reimbursement times vary depending on your insurance company, but it generally takes between 4 to 6 weeks after submitting a claim. You’ll receive a check in the mail directly from your insurance company once your claim has been processed. We suggest following up with your insurance provider if you don’t hear back within this timeframe.

If your reimbursement claim is denied, don’t worry—MovementX is here to help. You should forward any notifications about the denial to our billing team at billing@movement-x.com. We will work with you to identify any issues with the claim and assist you in resubmitting it. Keep in mind that we cannot guarantee payment, but we’ll do our best to support you throughout the process.

What Do These Insurance Terms Mean?

Understanding health insurance terminology can feel like learning a foreign language.

Here are definitions of common insurance words in plain English:

The maximum your insurance will pay for a service. If your insurance allows $150 for a session but MovementX charges $200, you may need to pay the $50 difference (also known as a “balance bill”). Learn more.

The percentage you pay for services after your deductible is met. If your insurance covers 70% and your session costs $200, you’ll only pay $60 out of pocket. This percentage can vary for in-network and out-of-network providers.

A Copayment is the fixed amount you are required to pay out-of-pocket for in-network services (not relevant to MovementX).

The amount you pay before insurance starts covering services. If you have a high in-network deductible, MovementX may be a more affordable option than in-network care. Our costs may also count toward your deductible.
