Frequently Asked Questions
Health insurance companies like to make things… complicated. Let’s get your questions answered.
Before Getting Started
You can check your out-of-network benefits by contacting your insurance company directly. This is usually best accomplished by calling the customer service number on the back of your insurance card. Alternatively, our MovementX insurance team can check for you! Simply submit this form, and we’ll email you a summary of your coverage within 48 hours. Understanding your benefits upfront helps ensure you know exactly what to expect before getting started.
A physician referral is not required to start physical therapy at MovementX. In some rare cases, your insurance plan may require a doctor referral in order for receive reimbursement for out-of-network services. So if you plan on submitting for reimbursement, we highly recommend submitting this form. Our team will check and make sure you have everything you need before starting care.
If your insurance plan requires prior authorization, it’s important to obtain this before starting therapy to ensure your sessions will be covered. You can contact your insurance company to confirm if prior authorization is needed (or our team can check for you if you submit your info here). If prior authorization is needed, MovementX can help submit the necessary request on your behalf and make the process easier for you.
Choosing an out-of-network provider like MovementX offers greater flexibility and more personalized care. You aren’t limited by the restrictions that insurance companies often place upon in-network providers, which can lead to shorter appointments or double-booked sessions. With out-of-network care, you get more time and attention from your therapist, highly specialized treatment, and greater convenience. You also have the choice for in-home services. While upfront costs may be higher, many patients find the quality of our care to be well worth the investment. Click here to get started now.
Insurance Coverage
MovementX is an out-of-network provider, which means we can work with most major insurance plans through reimbursement. You cannot use in-network benefits to pay for our services. However, most major insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits that allow you to receive reimbursement after paying for services upfront. Depending on your specific plan, physical therapy sessions with MovementX may also count toward your deductible. If you’re unsure about your specific plan, you can submit your insurance information to us, and we’ll help you verify your out-of-network coverage. We also accept Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) and Workers’ Compensation (WC or PIP) claims for qualifying patients, offering additional options for coverage.
While MovementX does not accept Medicare for traditional physical therapy services due to Medicare’s strict regulations, many people still choose to work with us on a self-pay basis because of the high level of personalized service we provide. We also offer wellness and strengthening services which are not covered by Medicare, but can effectively improve your movement and overall health. Additionally, if Medicare denies you further physical therapy visits at an insurance-based clinic, you can continue your care with MovementX out-of-pocket.
The “allowed amount” is the maximum sum your insurance company will pay for a service like physical therapy. Unfortunately, insurance companies don’t usually make these amounts publicly available, which can of course be frustrating (we believe this should be made more transparent). Your insurance company’s specific allowed amount may be lower than MovementX rates, which leaves you responsible for the difference (known as a “balance bill”). For example, if a session costs $200 and the allowed amount is $150, you’d pay the $50 difference. As we know this can all sound confusing, we’re here to help make sense of it. Give us a call at 202-681-1474 to chat with us.
Yes, you can use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for physical therapy sessions at MovementX. These accounts allow you to use pre-tax dollars to cover qualified medical expenses, including physical therapy, which can help reduce your overall out-of-pocket costs. Simply enter your account information when signing up, and those funds will be allocated towards care after each session.
Reimbursement
- Receive Your Superbill: After each session, we’ll provide you with an itemized receipt called a superbill. This includes all necessary details like CPT codes, dates of service, and provider information.
- Combine Receipts (If Needed): If you’ve had multiple sessions, we can combine the receipts into a single superbill, making it easier for you to submit a claim to your insurance company.
- Submit to Your Insurance: You can submit the superbill to your insurance company either by mailing it or uploading it through their online portal. Make sure to follow their specific submission guidelines to avoid delays.
- Follow Up on Your Claim: Once your claim is submitted, follow up with your insurance company to ensure it’s being processed. They will then send you a reimbursement check for the covered portion of your sessions based on your out-of-network benefits.
The exact amount you’ll be reimbursed depends on your specific insurance plan’s out-of-network benefits and whether you’ve met your deductible. Insurance companies usually cover a percentage of out-of-network services, typically within 50-80% of their allowable rate after you’ve met your deductible. We recommend verifying your out-of-network benefits with your insurance company to better understand your coverage before starting therapy.
Reimbursement times vary depending on your insurance company, but it generally takes between 2 to 6 weeks after submitting a claim. You’ll receive a check in the mail directly from your insurance company once your claim has been processed. We suggest following up with your insurance provider if you don’t hear back within this timeframe.
If your reimbursement claim is denied, don’t worry—MovementX is here to help. You should forward any notifications about the denial to our billing team at billing@movement-x.com. We will work with you to identify any issues with the claim and assist you in resubmitting it. Keep in mind that we cannot guarantee payment, but we’ll do our best to support you throughout the process.
Payment
The cost of physical therapy at MovementX varies depending on your location and the specific services you receive, but averages about $180.00 per session. We focus on providing high-quality, personalized care, and as an out-of-network provider, our rates are generally slightly higher than in-network care. However, many clients find the investment worth it for the personalized attention and expertise we offer. You can call us or visit our locations page for specific pricing information for physical therapists near you.
Payments for MovementX sessions are processed after each session is completed. It is 100% free to signup and register your account. Your provider will charge the card you have on file with us, and you will receive an email receipt for transparency. You’ll then have everything you need to submit your reimbursement claim to your insurance company.
MovementX takes your security very seriously. We use a reputable third-party payment processor to store and process your payment information. This means your credit card details are stored securely and anonymously, and we do not keep this information directly on our website or platform.
Absolutely! We’re more than happy to discuss payment, insurance questions, or address any concerns you have before getting started. You can reach out to us at 202-681-1474 any time for a consultation or to speak with one of our billing experts.
What Do These Insurance Terms Mean?
Understanding health insurance terminology can feel like learning a foreign language.
Here are helpful definitions of common (and confusing) insurance words:
The maximum your insurance will pay for a service. If your insurance allows $150 for a session but MovementX charges $200, you may need to pay the $50 difference (also known as a “balance bill”).
The percentage you pay for services after your deductible is met. If your insurance covers 70% and your session costs $200, you’ll only pay $60 out of pocket. This percentage can vary for in-network and out-of-network providers.
A Copayment is the fixed amount you are required to pay out-of-pocket for in-network services (not relevant to MovementX).
The amount you pay before insurance starts covering services. If you have a high in-network deductible, MovementX may be a more affordable option than in-network care. Our costs may also count toward your deductible.
A provider contracted with your insurance company at pre-negotiated rates. MovementX is not an in-network provider. In-network care may cost less but can lead to rushed appointments and less personalized care due to insurance restrictions.
A provider like MovementX without any insurance contracts, which offers more flexible and personalized care. While upfront costs may be higher, out-of-network care often gives you more specialized treatment without insurance limits.
The monthly amount you pay for your insurance plan.
Insurance approval required before certain services. While rare, some MovementX patients may need this for physical therapy coverage.
A physician’s order for specialist care. MovementX can verify if your insurance requires a referral before you start physical therapy.
The process of getting repaid by your insurance company for out-of-pocket expenses after receiving care from an out-of-network provider like MovementX. You pay upfront for services, then submit a claim to your insurance for reimbursement based on your plan’s coverage.
An itemized receipt MovementX provides, containing everything you need to submit for insurance reimbursement, including CPT codes.
